Bob Dylan's Classic 'Blowin' in the Wind' Used in New Super Bowl Commercial
Budweiser's Clydesdale horses return for their 2019 Super Bowl commercial. The Anheuser-Busch ad, “Wind Never Felt Better,” features a Dalmatian riding on a beer wagon being pulled by a team of Clydesdales, as Bob Dylan’s classic protest song “Blowin’ in the Wind” plays in the background. Halfway through the commercial, the scene begins to pan out revealing that the wagon is being pulling through a field full of electric windmills. The one minute ad ends with the tagline, “Now brewed with wind power for a better tomorrow.”
The commercial is a nod towards fact that the Budweiser claims to use renewable energy to power its breweries, some of which is produced at a wind farm in Oklahoma. USA Today reports that Anheuser-Busch will also be supplying some of its clean energy to the city of Atlanta to help power Super Bowl week.
Much like last year’s Budweiser commercial, which focused on the company’s declaration to provide clean water for hurricane victims, this ad also zeroes in on another one of the company’s do-gooder initiatives, while also giving fans of the commercials the animal mascots that they loved in years past. It is probable that Budweiser will receive some criticism for using the famous Bob Dylan song about confronting injustice to sell beer during the Super Bowl. But the VP of marketing for Anheuser-Busch Ricardo Marques, is confident that ad will be a hit despite this odd thematic abutment, telling USA Today, “I think people will forgive us for that.”
A one-minute version was released Wednesday, and a 45-second cut of the ad will run during the Super Bowl on February 3.
