Maroon 5, Travis Scott and Big Boi Confirmed to Perform Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show
As announced in September, Maroon 5 will headline the 2019 edition of the Super Bowl halftime show. This was confirmed by the NFL, adding that the show will feature special guests Travis Scott and Big Boi.
Before confirming Maroon 5 as the headliner, the football league approached several other artists, among them Rihanna, Pink, Nicki Minaj and André 3000, but all rejected the offer in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, the player of American football that knelt during the National Anthem as a protest against police brutality.
At the behest of JAY-Z , Scott himself almost withdrew from the event, but agreed to move on after the NFL made a significant donation to social justice entities. Specifically, the NFL donated $ 500,000 to Dream Corps, an organization that works on the reform of criminal justice and other social causes.
"I support all those who defend what they believe. I know that, as an artist, I have the ability to inspire. Then, before confirming participation in the Super Bowl, I made sure to partner with the NFL in this important donation. I'm proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will, hopefully, inspire and promote change," Scott said in a statement.
Super Bowl 53 is scheduled for February 3, 2019 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
