Universal Working on New Movie Inspired by Prince's Music
Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to several Prince songs with the aim of creating a film that uses those melodies to tell a story.
But, unlike Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" biopic, this new performance will include a fictional story inspired by classical themes, as the producers thought that the film "Purple Rain" (1984) had "largely covered" the approach Biography of Prince.
On the other hand, the president of Universal, Donna Langley, "wanted to do something original and out of the ordinary". "The meetings have started with possible writers, and the producers and executives hope that the film could be something like Universal's 'Mamma Mia' [for the film inspired by Abba's songs ], with a completely original image. A story where Prince's music helps to promote that narrative, "says the report.
"Although it is definitely not a biographical film, the film studios have been looking for the next big musical after the success of Fox's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'," the text adds.
Becoming the largest collection biopic of all time, "Bohemian Rhapsody" has received in 31 days since its premiere over 540 million dollars in ticket sales, with a production budget of about 55 million dollars.
The figures far surpass the musical biopic "Straight Outta Compton", from Universal, which raised 201 million dollars worldwide in 2015. The success of the film was also reflected in the discography of Queen, enjoying the best location in the album of American albums in 38 years and seeing how the main song entered the Billboard Hot 100 for the third time. On the other hand, the members of Queen have just confirmed a tour of the United States in 2019 with the singer Adam Lambert.
"The Dirt", the biographical film of Mötley Crüe, will be released in the United States on March 22, 2019. Meanwhile, Elton John's "Rocketman" story will also be released in 2019.
