Ringo Starr Celebrates 56th Anniversary of Joining The Beatles
Drummer Ringo Starr celebrated the anniversary of the day when he joined the Beatles 56 years ago today.
Although the band was formed in 1957, Ringo didn't join the Beatles until 1962, when Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and George Harrison invited him to join replacing the original drummer Pete Best.
He was playing a residency with Rory Storm & the Hurricanes at Butlins in Skegness. Shortly before that, Ringo had agreed to join Kingsize Taylor in Hamburg, Taylor was offering £20 a week, but McCartney, Lennon and Harrison offered him £25 a week, which he accepted.
Starr used his Twitter account to announce the anniversary
Ringo Starr was knighted earlier this year for his “services to music”, 20 years after Paul McCartney received his knighthood back in 1997.
