Paul McCartney Remembers The Nine Days He Spent in a Japanese Jail

Paul McCartney recalled the time he was imprisoned in a Japanese jail for nine days, after being arrested for carrying marijuana.

In June, a special of James Corden's "Carpool Karaoke" was aired with the special participation of McCartney.

Together they toured Liverpool, with the former Beatle visiting different places in the city and remembering the importance in his life. Last night (August 20) a part of the material that was left out of that first delivery was issued in the United States.

In the video, McCartney talks about his arrest in 1980 at the Tokyo airport after he was found marijuana in his suitcase. "I'm still confused about how that happened, but it happened," he told Corden. "I had some marijuana in my suitcase and I ended up in jail for nine days. Horror!".

The former Beatle also revealed what his sentence should have been if his "celebrity" status had not helped him. "The guy says: 'Oh! [makes an incoherent sound] '", McCartney began. "And I asked: 'Well, what did he say?' And they answer me: 'Seven years of forced labor'. And in reality, that was the sentence for what he had done."

He shared another memory of his last day in prison, explaining that the prisoners had to share the bathroom. "In the end, I thought, 'Come on! is nothing. I'm going to go in with the guys, "he said. "Then we all went in and it was fun, you know, to be in the bathtub with all these Japanese."

Meanwhile, the film crews were recently seen near McCartney's childhood home in the Garston area of Liverpool, sparking speculation that the artist was shooting a new video clip there.

In recent weeks, the musician has returned to Liverpool several times. In addition to filming his appearance at the "Carpool Karaoke", he also participated in an open talk with Jarvis Cocker at the Performing Arts Institute of Liverpool and made a surprise appearance at the Cavern Club.

McCartney will release his album "Egypt Station" on September 7 (Available for pre-order at Amazon). The material will be presented live in a series of concerts in the United Kingdom in December.
