New Lynyrd Skynyrd Documentary to Premiere on Showtime in August
A documentary about Lynyrd Skynyrd titled "If I Leave Here Tomorrow" that premiered in March of this year at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, will debut on Showtime next month.
Narrated for the most part by founding Lynyrd Skynyrd member Gary Rossington , will air on the cable network on August 18 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
The documentary follows the legendary Southern rock band's rise to fame and looks at the tragic October 20, 1977 plane crash that took the lifes of frontman Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and his sister Cassie Gains, along with the aftermath of the tragedy. The documentary features interviews with former band member Artimus Pyle (drummer), Ed King, (guitarist), late drummer Bob Burns , late JoJo Billingsley (backing vocalist), Al Kooper (producer), as well as Rossinton and others.
The movie also shows rare archival footage, along with newly discovered radio interviews with Ronnie Van Zant and his late founding bandmates Leon Wilkeson and Allen Collins.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is currently in the middle of its "Last of the Street Survivors" Farewell Tour. The band performs in Mansfield, Massachusetts, tonight.
