Huey Lewis and The News Sign Deal to Release First Album in 10 years

Paul McCartney Starts New Year With New Song 'Get Enough'

Huey Lewis and The News have announced a deal to record their tenth studio album, which will be released this spring.

It will be the group's first album with original songs since "Plan B", 2001. In 2009 the band released "Soulsville", a cover collection of Stax Records, with frontman Huey Lewis remarking that "the public is not clamoring for new Huey Lewis and The News material."

However, doubts remain about his ability to embark on a tour, since the singer suffers from a hearing illness.

"We are very excited about our new album and, honestly, we believe it is among our best works. We can not wait for it to reach our fans! "He said in a statement. "We are equally excited to be with BMG, whose reputation as a label that puts music first, precedes them admirably."

"When we approached Huey and the band, it became clear that this is a perfect combination," said BMG representative John Loeffler. "We hope to give the band more opportunities to take advantage of everything we have to offer and work. Together with them we will develop new creative endeavors ".

Last year, Lewis canceled 60 concerts after suffering hearing problems diagnosed as Meniere's disease. "I really feel bad for my guys, my team, because we've been doing this for so many years together," Lewis said last May. "It can be better; But it has not happened yet. I have not realized that I may never be able to sing again. I'm still waiting for it to improve. They say that a positive attitude is important."

The Mayo Clinic defines Meniere's disease as chronic, whose symptoms include vertigo, tinnitus, hearing loss and a sensation of pressure in the ears. It is believed, but not proven, that it is caused by an abnormal amount of fluid in the inner ear, which could occur from several factors.

Huey Lewis and The News was one of the most successful bands of the 80s, with hits like "The Power of Love", "Heart and Soul", "I Want a New Drug (Called Love)", "Stuck With You" and "Hip to be Square", among others.
