Forensic report indicates that Dolores O'Riordan, singer of The Cranberries, died of drowning
Dolores O'Riordan, singer of the Irish band The Cranberries, died drowning in a bathtub as a result of alcohol poisoning, The Guardian newspaper reported.
O'Riordan was found dead in a hotel room in London on January 15, and the Forensic Court of Westminster ordered an investigation into her death, a common practice when it is suspected that the death was not due to natural causes.
"On January 15, 2018, we lost our dear friend and bandmate Dolores O'Riordan," The Cranberries said in a statement. "Today we continue to struggle to come to terms with what happened".
An employee of the hotel found O'Riordan submerged face up in the bathtub. The police and the paramedics were summoned to the scene, but the singer was declared dead at 9:16 AM, London time.
The coroner's investigation took note of O'Riordan's blood alcohol level, which was four times the legal limit for driving in England. The researchers found five small bottles of the room's mini bar on the scene, as well as a bottle of champagne.
O'Riordan had also been taking prescription medications, including lorazepam to fight anxiety, and had also been smoking a lot.
According to The Guardian, the coroner, Dr. Shirley Radcliffe , said: "There is no evidence that this was more than an accident. There was no intention, this seems to be just a tragic accident."
O'Riordan had been dealing for some time with bipolar disorder and excessive alcohol consumption. Last September, he wrote a suicide note while drinking and taking lorazepam.
The other members of the Cranberries are still processing O'Riordan's death, but they want their fans to remember her fondly.
"Dolores will live forever in her music," they said. "Seeing how much positive impact it had on people's lives has been a great source of comfort for us. We would like to thank all of our fans for the large number of messages and their continued support during this difficult time."
Before the death of O'Riordan, the band was working on a new album. Next year, the group will reissue their debut album , "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can We We?".
