Dave Grohl And Krist Novoselic Do Not Rule Out Future Nirvana Shows

New David Bowie Documentary To Explore Early Career

Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic talked about the possibility of more reunions of Nirvana, after sharing the stage at the Cal Jam Festival of Foo Fighters, earlier this month.

The musicians, along with Nirvana guitarist Pat Smear, performed a set of six songs with Joan Jett and other guests, marking only their second joint performance since the death of leader Kurt Cobain in 1994.

"After playing at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame [in 2014], I considered the idea that, if the opportunity existed, we could do it again," Grohl told Kerrang in a new interview. "But it's a delicate territory, and you can not treat it as a concert anymore. It is very complicated and very special. In those moments, when it just happens naturally, I think it's the best way."

The leader of Foo Fighters also recalled the preparations for the Cal Jam set. "When Pat, Krist and I sat down to go over those songs in a small, concrete-walled rehearsal room, it sounded like Nirvana," he noted. "It was like being shot into outer space. Being able to play that battery ['Smells Like Teen Spirit'] that bursts and breaks in the choir ... is spiritual, physical, emotional."

Grohl recalled that "they looked and smiled, but the emotions were in waves, because someone was missing, and you wish you could share those songs with Kurt".

"Personally, it was great to play with those guys again and play those songs," said Novoselic, who seemed to have spent a remarkably good time at Cal Jam. He added that he did not expect it to become "something normal" and wanted to make sure "it does not turn into a circus."

On the possibility of writing new material together, the bassist replied: "I do not see why not. Maybe if the right circumstances were given, we would do it, because we've done it before with Pat and with Paul McCartney in 'Cut Me Some Slack', why not? "
