Doug 'Cosmo' Clifford Hints At Release Of Full CCR 1969 Woodstock Performance
The historic 1969 Woodstock Music Festival will celebrate its 50th anniversary this August, and Creedence Clearwater Revival's drummer Doug "Cosmo" Clifford has announced that the band's full performance which took place just after midnight on 17 August 1969, is expected to be released this year to celebrate the anniversary of the iconic event.
"We fought for 50 years over [releasing the performance], and now it looks like it's finally…gonna be out there," Clifford explained to ABC Radio. "So, I'm excited about that, and hopefully the fans will be excited about it as well."
Clifford didn't confirm whether or not both audio and video of CCR's Woodstock performance would be released.
Creedence Clearwater Revival was not included in the 1970 Oscar-winning documentary about the Woodstock festival. CCR frontman John Fogerty reveals in his autobiography "Fortunate Son", that he vetoed having the band included in the film, because he wasn't happy with their overall performance. Clifford regrets the decision, saying, "I'm sorry that we weren't in the movie. That wasn't my decision. But we were there…and we had a big part of it being as grand as it was, just by virtue of saying 'yes' to the [organizers'] offer."
The 1969 Woodstock festival is listed as No. 19 in Rolling Stone "50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll".
