Bono Says He Was Close to Death, But Won't Give Details
Bono, singer of U2, spoke of the difficult life-threatening experience that he faced in 2016, when he was close to death.
Although he did not give precise details of what happened, Bono told The Sunday Times: "I do not want to talk about that, but I had a serious moment in my recent life where I almost ceased to exist. I've totally overcome it, I'm stronger than ever."
"It was very serious, now I'm fine, but I almost was not," he said. "I have had many warnings. A few hits in recent years."
Bono added: "There were some serious whispers in the ear that maybe I should have noticed. The Edge says that I see my body as an inconvenience, and it's true. I really love being alive and it's great to be alive, which means that I like to get the best out of every day."
The singer noted that the incident marked the "first time I put my shoulder on the door and it did not open". "I feel God whispered to me: 'Next time, try to knock on the door or just try the handle. You do not use your shoulder because you will break it, '"he explained.
In the notes of U2's most recent album, "Songs of Experience," Bono said an "important moment" had inspired some of his lyrics. "I was receiving a shock in the system," he said. "A shock that left me clinging to my own life. It was a dazzling experience. I will not stop in him or with him. I do not want to name it."
In recent years, Bono has faced various health problems. In 2014, he had an accident with his bicycle, which left fractures in his arm and eye socket.
About a new tour with U2 after "Experience + Innocence", Bono said "I do not know, I do not take anything for granted".
"This tour is particularly demanding. Whether you face your own mortality or that of someone close to you, there will come a point in your life when you ask yourself where you are going."
A few weeks ago, Bono had to suspend a concert in Germany due to problems with his throat.
